The greatest tool for building personal skills and organizational strengths is learning through the experience of others. Through interaction with guest lecturers, participants will identify individual and organizational issues and find problem-solving strategies.

Communication Skills for Leaders

Utilizing case studies and scenarios, participants learn to apply tools to communicating, influencing and persuading internal, external and political audiences. Communication skills are practiced in matters related to administration, operations, labor relations, interagency relations, and marketing.

Leadership and the Masters: Theory to Practice

Participants will discuss and debate various leadership models, put them into context relevant to the mission, goals and functions of their organization and learn to apply these in their daily operations.

Leader as Teacher

Participants will apply key techniques of situational leadership, define the needs of employees as learners, identify goals and tasks of the leader/teacher and learn how to apply the skills needed to create the proper environment for introducing new policies and practices and changing behavior.

Leader’s Perspective on Emergency Management: Principles, Tactics and Plans

Participants will learn how to assess emergency management plans. From there, they will study and gain an understanding of basic and advanced concepts of emergency management, the role of personnel assigned to serve as designated emergency managers and the importance of emergency management to a leader’s responsibility of ensuring the well-being of others.

Strategic Planning for Leaders

Participants apply an array of techniques to assess, modify and present strategic plans and motivate others to participate in the strategic planning process. They will learn to incorporate strategic plans into their day-to-day functions. Participants will employ a variety of techniques to involve and motivate employees to engage in the strategic planning process and implement the plan once it is established.
